There can not be more importance put on this idea of simultaneous learning, most notably written about by author Paul Harris in Improve Your Teaching: Teaching Beginners: A New Approach for Instrumental and Singing Teachers.

The idea that the pupil can learn as many aspects of one subject through one activity is an important one to instill confidence and musicality into a pupil from the very beginning. It works via the introduction of many skills through one major one, for example improvisation. This one skill alone provides the learner with other basic skills such as listening skills, creativity, theory, dynamic range, pitch, articulation, use of pedal and even technique.

Therefore this way the pupil does not spend time on each of these aspects separately, ultimately enhancing the learning of the pupil and quickening the learning process whilst not missing anything important out.

In order to be an efficient teacher this skill must be learnt thoroughly to give the pupil the best chance of achieving their potential.
