I Play The Harp

A fantastic book I have come across whilst teaching my younger pupils is "I Play the Harp by" by Gabriella Bosio. The method is divided up into two volumes. One colourful fun method filled with pictures for the pupil (aged 4 and above) and the second is designed for the teacher and also the parent who may also then be able to help supplement the study at home.

The main reason I like this book so much is it manages to make learning to read music easy and fun by using lots of short pieces. Children have a tendency to lose concentration in a lesson quickly but by keeping each section short the book helps in keeping the child interested and it seems to really inspire them by giving them achievable yet still challenging goals for each lesson.

A lovely touch at the end was adding a certificate to the book, therefore, even students who are not yet ready to take a grade have some recognition for their all hard work and feel as if they have achieved a goal which, in my lessons, alongside enjoyment, I believe is fundamental!!
