The pie charts represent production of electricity in Australia and France by fuel source in units in years 1980 and 20 years later, in 2000. Total production of electricity in 1980 has been 100 units. Half of that energy has been produced from charcoal, 20 percent hydropower and another 20 percent from natural gas. Oil produced only 10 units. In 20 years time there have been major changes in energy production. In total 170 units of electrical energy were produced, 130 of which were from charcoal. Hydroelectric powerplants produced 36 units, while oil and natural gas contributed only 2 units each. Energy production in France is visibly different from production in Australia. In 1980 there have been 90 units of electricity produced. A quarter has been produced by burning charcoal and another quarter by natural gas. 20 units were produced from oil, 5 units from natural gas and, for the first time, 15 units from nuclear power. In 2000, out of 180 units of electricity produced , nuclear energy contributed 126 units. 50 units have been acquired from charcoal and oil combined, while natural gas and hydro power produced only 2 energy units each. From the charts it is evident, that there have been enormous changes in energy production in both countries. In 2000 Australia received most of their electricity from burning charcoal while France got most of their energy from nuclear power.
