Information about Nicole
I teach with a warm, down to earth appoach. No two students ever have the same learning style, so I adapt the way I teach to the manner that best suits your own unique learning needs. I love seeing my students flourish once they develop confidence in their strengths and abilities. My two main teaching areas are English Literature and Nursing. I enjoy the creative and reflective aspect of teaching English Literature, and helping students to develop their skills in reading the set texts critically while also unlocking their own creative interpretations of poetry, fiction and plays.
My own journey through learning has taken twists and turns in unexpected directions, instilling in me the belief that we often only stumble across our talents accidentally. I studied Adult Nursing after leaving school, but always felt an itch to study literature and the arts. This took me to a first class honours degree in English Literature from University College Dublin to earning a Masters Degree (in Modernist Literature) from York University. After that, I achieved a PhD from Newcastle University.
I supported my university studies by working in nursing on a part-time basis, transferring from Adult Nursing to Mental Health Nursing in 2003. Since then, I have always maintained my interest in the changing world of the health and social care sectors. I keep up to date with changes to public health policies and news from the World Health Organisation and the National Institute for Clinical Excellence.
