Information about Urfan

Students at KS3, GCSE and A-Level may require extra tuition to stimulate and inspire them on even the most tedious sections of the syllabus.
I provide an ideal learning environment and able to structure lessons and offer one-to-one support.
I have ten years’ experience of tutoring with an outstanding success rate of working with students on raising achievements and progress, developing exam techniques, motivation for academic subjects and raising confidence. I have worked with high ability students and students who are under-achieving to improve their progress. I am passionate about helping students secure a solid education, to lay the foundations for a successful career later in life
I am an experienced Qualified Chemistry teacher (QTLS) with a proven track record of delivering well-structured lessons that stimulated learning among diverse and challenging learners in London colleges such as City of Westminster, Newham College and Richmond Upon Thames College. I have experience of teaching level 1 to level 3 programmes, including GCSE, BTEC Applied Science, Access to Science, As and A Level Chemistry, in a range of educational settings and specialise in focusing on individualised programmes and learning. I identify and assess the learning needs and academic levels of a wide range of learners. I deliver targeted practise using past exam papers with detailed constructive feedback that focuses on continual improvement. I joined Excel in Key subjects at the UCL campus and provided lectures to students during term time on a Saturday for three years. I was teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level students in Chemistry. During holidays, I performed an intensive course for GCSE and A-Level Chemistry where I mentored several students and practised pass exam papers and improving their exam technique. I have up to date knowledge of the specific curriculum and specifications for various exam boards. I have a current up to date DBS Check.

Experience: I am experienced in tutoring, and try innovative teaching methods to make teaching a fun experience. I like to go through the theory so the students understand the basics of the topic, and then work on past exam question which will give the student confidence when sitting the exam.I like to give students the freedom to tell me what they are uncertain about and what they think they need help on. Taking this information I then try to deduce how much of the essential pre-requisite skills and abilities the student has and working closely with them try to see where the misunderstanding stems from. After having ascertained this I work with the student in order to teach them how to overcome the uncertainty and be confident in their ability. If one of their basic skills is lacking, I will first endeavour to bring that skill up to scratch before proceeding to tackle the bigger problem as I believe that a firm foundation in the basics is fundamental before being able to move onto more complex issues.

I do not like to take lead in any tutoring session nor do I answer questions with just straight answers. Rather I try to help the students work the answers to their own questions by simple reasoning and a logical process; utilising their own skills and problem solving abilities to break down what appear to be complex problem into a series of simple tasks. I have found that this approach enables the student to gain much greater confidence in their own skills and abilities and removes the somewhat artificial and short-lived gain they get from working with a tutor who merely gives them the answer. This approach enables them to gain educational independence and allows them to solve problems on their own, especially in cases of seeing new material, by having confidence in their own ability and skills. Such confidence is lacking in many students, who are otherwise very academically sound.

Having also been a student myself, I know exactly what is required by the exam boards and examiners. I also help the students with revision tips and exam techniques when the time for them approaches, helping them cut down on the excess material that is questionable and helping them to learn what is important for their understanding and future.

I have been Tutoring in Excel in Key Subject as a highly specialised teacher of KS3, GCSE, As and A level chemistry in a specialist centre focusing on individualised programmes and learning. I Identified and assessed learner`s needs and academic levels of a wide range of learners. Delivering targeted practice using past exam papers with detailed constructive feedback that focuses on continual improvement.
