Information about Umra

Lifelong student of History, Literature and the humanities in general. Currently work as a Cover Supervisor. I do hold a Bachelors in English and have taught GCSE English Language and Literature privately for 6 years.

My approach is holistic which means I carry out a full diagnostic assessment for each student before beginning tuition. Each student is unique in their ability, goals and personality which is key to understand before seeking tuition. For this reason, I follow a different method which incorporates theories from both Democratic education and Montessori. This has proven to help students reach academic milestones much more easily and at a pace which suits them. To take a practical example of this, I have had a 16 year old GCSE student who was very demotivated. I did a diagnostic with her and found she had deep behavioral issues preventing her from not only grasping the content she needed to but her entire attitude towards learning which was negative. Therefore I had made her a tailored timetable to suit her needs which resulted in her moving from an E to a C grade.

These are a few things I have achieved thus far: I have created KS3 English revision guides, up-skilled colleagues when the new curriculum launched in 2017 and held workshops for struggling students. I believe what sets me apart is my flexible and dynamic approach to learning and my teaching style which is always tailored to suit each student. For example, I have used active listening to decipher what the student really needs instead of imposing a ‘one size fits all’ method on them.
