Information about Tom
Hi, I`m Tom, an Oxford University-educated private tutor in Economics, Maths, Politics and Philosophy. I have ten years` experience and have taught at least 300 students, mostly at A level.
Most of my teaching is one-to-one but I also run Easter Revision Courses in Economics.
I have numerous testimonials about my tutoring. Here are two, many more available on request.
"Tom is an extremely knowledgable tutor who knows everything there is to know about the subject he teaches. He knew how to explain things and then went further into the information to gain a deeper understanding allowing the topics to be remembered. I got through several maths topic because of Tom!" (Mathematics A-Level)
"Tom managed to get me from a complete economics beginnner to a First Class mark at university. His tutoring is clear, clever and incredibly helpful!" (Economics & History Degree, Durham University)
I teach mathematics up to and including A-level and economics up to and including degree level. I also teach politics and philosophy up to and including postgraduate level, depending on the topic area required. I cover all major exam boards. I can visit you in your home, or lessons are possible at my house. I also teach online using Skype and an online whiteboard.
My aim as a tutor is to create in my students a deep understanding and confidence in answering exam questions and being able to tackle new and unfamiliar problems. My teaching philosophy is based on encouraging students to think for themselves, using real-world examples wherever possible. I start from topics the students are comfortable with and move gradually towards more complex areas as their confidence builds. I use questions and examples to check understanding continually. I don`t lecture to students or ask them to memorise things. Nor do I do the studentsâ homework for them!
I believe passionately in the huge value of tutoring to students and take great satisfaction in seeing my students achieve their full potential.
I also regularly coach and mentor students in their application for Oxford or Cambridge.
