I am a Professional maths tutor with a maths degree from Imperial College. I have taught over 8000 hours of maths tutorials over the last 15 years, particularly focusing on A Level (Edexcel, OCR AQA exam boards), GCSE and IB. I am also one of the longest serving tutors on TutorHunt with over 12 years experience. During that time, I have helped numerous students improve by two or three grades, especially under tight pressure with exams approaching. Prior to this, I spent 5 years in the City in finance before leaving to follow my passion for teaching. I have also studied communication and have been a public speaker and lecturer. This has helped me to effectively communicate the concepts I teach. I have an excellent track record in bringing out the student`s potential and receive countless 5-star reviews and recommendations because of this.

The majority of my career has been as a full-time tutor, where my livelihood has been dependent on my ability and effectiveness. I am a professional tutor rather than a university student or a school teacher looking to supplement their income. Therefore, I am not distracted by other commitments and am completely focused on the student`s success. This means I can dedicate more time outside of lessons to prepare, track progress, and liaise with students and parents to help them get the most out of the tutorials. I have also produced hours of video content to supplement the live lessons I teach.

During the last 15 years, I have perfected my craft. My skill is to explain complex concepts in an understandable manner. Tuition is unlike classroom teaching, that involves general topic explanations to larger groups. My talent is to provide targeted and focused tutorials that get to the heart of a student`s difficulties. The first lesson always involves careful diagnostics to determine strengths and weaknesses. I then draw up a detailed plan of attack to enable the student to reach their potential and academic goals. I also emphasise exam technique to ensure no underperformance under exam conditions.

My extensive experience has brought me in contact with students of all backgrounds and abilities, from children with educational needs to adult learners. Consequently, I have learned to tailor my lessons to the needs of the student and their required teaching style. Having a maths degree from one of the world`s top universities has given me the confidence to go into any tutorial, knowing I will fully understand the concepts and will be able to explain them effectively. Because I specialise exclusively in maths, I know exactly what the examiners want and how they award marks. In addition, I have picked up many tips and techniques not taught in schools. I don`t waste valuable tuition time teaching peripheral content but get to the heart of the matter, teaching the quickest and most effective methods to maximise grades. There is no substitute for practice, and I set numerous problems to be completed before the next lesson. This is the only way to be sure topics are sinking in. I always emphasise a complete understanding of problems, not just simply learning methods.

Many years of private tuition have enabled me to develop my skills of patience and approachability. If a student needs help understanding my explanation, I will explain it differently. I am never condescending and refrain from using technical jargon. I understand that exam season can be very stressful, and I am always careful to encourage and build confidence. I was a face-to-face tutor in London, coaching students from prestigious schools for years. However, I now teach exclusively online and find my lessons are now even more effective because of this. I record all my classes that the student can review to help revise. I also produce pdf files of all lesson slides to further assist in achieving desired grades. I can also provide video examples of my teaching style on request
