Information about Laura
I offer online (using Bramble online tuition interface) or face to face tuition.
I have a first class honours degree in Natural Science. I have spent many years working with young people and now enjoy combining my two passions - my love of science and the enjoyment and reward of helping others to achieve in their scientific studies at school.
I have been tutoring for 9 years and am really enjoying it although it is hard work because I like to ensure I am well prepared for each session with suitable resources and activities to engage all styles of learning and to enable students of all abilities to achieve and grow in confidence in the subject.
All my sessions are written to meet the learning outcomes specified by the Examination Board the student is studying (or the QCA schemes of work for KS1,2 and 3) and provide the student with scope to both stretch and support their existing learning. All sessions also provide lots of scope for practising examination style questions on each topic.
I have also recently started tutoring for The Access Project on a voluntary basis. This is an organisation funded by the government to ensure that students from disadvantaged backgrounds can benefit from one-to-one tuition without having to pay for it.
I have an enhanced DBS certificate through the access project
Availability: Most evenings by arrangement and some weekends.
I am flexible to meet the needs of the student - whether you are looking for a few intensive sessions as last minute revision or you are looking for ongoing support throughout the school year.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have been working in education for 16 years spending 6 of those with an Education Business Partnership. Teaching work related and enterprise skills to secondary school students. Designing and delivering leadership and interview skills courses and Customer Service workshops to sixth formers.
Then followed 10 years working for the Fire & Rescue Service in the education department. Designing and delivering lesson plans on all aspects of fire and fire safety specialising in the science of fire. Working with all ages from 5-18 including young people with special educational needs up to age 25.
Following a period of study at the Open University gaining a First Class Honours degree I decided to share my passion for science by tutoring students of all ages up to and including GCSE (all 3 sciences) and A level (Biology and Human Biology).
To support this ambition I spent a year working in a local school as a science teaching assistant and taught cover lessons in science. I also supported students in the weekly after school âTop Upâ science sessions.
I am now in my tenth year of tutoring.
