I am a very experienced English teacher and tutor, with 20+ years working in excellent state and independent schools, including [contact detail removed]. I have been a private tutor, since 2008, working with upper primary, and secondary pupils as well as adults and university students. I`ve successfully prepared candidates for grammar school and independent school entrance at 11+ and 13+. I`ve also coached students for IGCSE and GCSE English Language and Literature as well as teaching A Level English Language and Literature. I`m an examiner for the [contact detail removed] as well as for [contact detail removed] A Level and Pre-U. I have a first class English Degree from the University of London and a PGCE. I also have a current and continuously updated DBS certificate.
I teach via the internet as far afield as China and the US.

Availability: I work over the internet Tuesday- Thursday during school term time, otherwise by arrangement. There may be availability outside these times, so please contact me to discuss your requirements. I also work online, via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime and other conferencing technologies. For those able to consider this method of coaching, there may be greater flexibility over tutoring times.

Experience: As mentioned above, I am a very experienced teacher. I spent 14+ years in the maintained sector and 8 in independent schools before leaving to start working with pupils on a one-to-one basis. Some of the schools I worked in were all-ability, others selective. I spent time as a head of department and a sixth form tutor and have considerable understanding of post 16 education as well as secondary school entrance. I`ve taught English Language and Literature to A Level with knowledge of a wide range of syllabuses. As an examiner, I have marked IGCSE and A Level literature papers alongside alternative post 16 exams like IB and Pre-U. I am currently an examiner and combine this work with my private teaching. I have also helped undergraduates and postgraduates with work on essays and dissertations, including subjects other than English.
