Information about Sarah K.

I am a full-time bilingual French language tutor with considerable experience in motivating and coaching language students and professionals of all ages. My key aim is to create a safe setting within which each student can feel free to learn without negative pressures from classroom peers, judgment from teachers, fear of criticism or embarrassment, or any other restrictions.

After years of helping and supporting language students of all ages in my spare time (both French and English) I came to appreciate the value of one-to-one teaching in mastering a language. Every student will have different questions, different talents and will need to face different hurdles. My calm, patient and considerate approach to tutoring creates an environment where no question is silly, any worries about the subject can be discussed openly, and frustrations from the classroom can be ironed out, explored and worked through. A one-to-one tutoring session also means gifted students can be pushed further than they would be in a classroom environment. In effect, it is the student who will dictate the pace of the sessions.

Adults can also benefit greatly from private language tuition. Research has shown that top employers urge young people to improve their employability prospects by adding a language to their CV and that foreign language skills make jobseekers of any age more employable during a recession. Therefore, reviving language skills learned years previously can enhance your career prospects. Having enjoyed a career spanning 12 years in the media, advertising and recruitment industries I am well placed to tailor sessions to include business jargon and technical corporate vocabulary.

I lived in France for several years and studied my degree at a top French Business School, and as a result am bilingual in all aspects of daily French life, culture and business. I have a BA (Hons) degree in European Management (2:1) from Middlesex University Business School in London, and a DESEM (Diplôme d’Etudes Supérieures Européennes de Management – equivalent to a UK Honours degree) from Euromed Management in Marseille, France.

Availability: I cover most areas within Central London and South London. I am available from Monday to Friday 12noon-9pm, and at weekends from 12noon-7pm.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I have been tutoring French language students full-time since the beginning of 2010, prior to which I enjoyed 12 years in the media, advertising and recruitment industries in a variety of sales and marketing roles. Throughout my career I have had a great deal of experience of high-level interpreting, translating and proofreading.

I have a natural flair for explaining grammatical points, and helping students appreciate the correct context in which to use particular vocabulary. I have also helped students improve their pronunciation and French accents.
