I am comfortable teaching all areas of English Literature, History, Philosophy and Theatre Studies up to A Level standard and have always had good results with students I have tutored. At Oxford I covered all periods of English Literature from 1100 to the present. If it is of interest, my two specialist papers were Tennyson and versions of `Measure for Measure` from 1604-1700.

I have a real passion for teaching and passing down the knowledge and insight that has been afforded to me by the excellent teachers I have encountered as a student.

In addition to my work as a tutor I am also a writer and actress. I have performed and run workshops in theatres such as: The National, Chichester Festival Theatre, Orange Tree and the Oxford Playhouse and I am currently using my free time to write a verse play.

Availability: For the next few months I am free in the daytime and the evenings.

Experience: This is my twelfth year working as a private tutor; I have tutored over 200 students in the following subjects: English Literature; English Language; Creative Writing; Philosophy; History; Theatre Studies; Psychology. On a number of occasions I have also helped students who struggle to structure their work in other subjects, such as Politics and make-up design.

I have taught students of all ages and have always had good results; those who have been preparing for exams have consistently moved up at least a grade; those who have been working towards entrance exams have gained their places. In particular, I have tutored a number of students applying to Oxford to read English Literature and Language, all of whom have gained their respective places. One of my first students, whose English was poor when we began tutorials 5 years ago, gained her academic scholarship to a top London private school last year and we are now working on her application to Oxford.

I have a very individual approach to tutoring, tailoring my method and focus to suit each student’s particular strengths and weaknesses. Broadly speaking my emphasis is on ensuring that the tutee improves not only their academic achievement but also their ability to recognise, for themselves, where and how their own work can be improved. I have found that this method results in a quicker and more thorough improvement, not only in the subject that they are being tutored in but also in their ability to learn across all subjects.
