I am a retired Head of Maths from the independent sector - many years at Bembridge School and subsequently Westmont School in Newport on the Isle of Wight. I have provided private tuition in maths (up to A level) and physics (GCSE level) since the 1980s. I experienced a British education (1960s) that included an extremely tough and gruelling system of exams. This was incidental to a very strict general school regime - only went out at most one evening per week! (during both `O` and `A` levels) and then home before 11pm. I moved on to study at the University of Kent (B.Sc.Hons Mathematics). Privileged to have had lectures from the famous American astronomer (Prof. George McVittie) who was an international expert on general relativity theory.
I am married with two grown up children - one in NHS administration and the other in the advertising and film making industry. My main interests, apart from self employed tutoring, are jazz music, films, astronomy, hill walking, cycling, own research and writing up of articles in mathematics (some have been published in the Mathematical Association`s Gazette).

Availability: Daytime and evenings (I am retired so very flexible with times and days).

Please note I live on the Isle of Wight and only tutor on the Island NOT in the Portsmouth area.

Experience: Prior to teaching mathematics (11-18), I spent 5 years at GEC-Marconi (Rochester, Kent) where I worked with a team that attempted to debug software dedicated to detecting Russian submarines!
Before this employment, after graduating, I spent some time working in academic libraries.
