Information about Richard
I am an experienced private tutor working in the Oxford area. I graduated from Oxford University with an MSt in English literature in 2013 and began a DPhil, focussing on English poetry, in October, 2015. I also hold a first-class undergraduate degree in Philosophy and English from Edinburgh.
My academic background is rooted in both philosophy and literature and I am happy to teach either of these at any level from pre-GCSE through to university. In the past, I have worked as a course designer for an educational company in Oxford and am attuned to a variety of learning styles and accustomed to making learning at once challenging and fun.
My knowledge of English and philosophy is exemplary, and I received a number of prizes in both subjects through school and university.

Experience: I have tutored a range of students with a range of abilities from GCSE to A Level in English language, literature and philosophy. In several cases, I have significantly improved my students` grades.Contact this Tutor
Feedback For Richard (9)
Richard has given my Year 10 son 4 sessions so far, and it`s been excellent - my son was dubious at first about whether a tutor would work (he is not keen on school generally), but now feels like he really learns best one-to-one, and is going to carry on next year with Richard. He just got a distinction in his GCSE English speaking exam, thanks in large part to Richard`s preparation with him.
Richard helped our daughter with GCSE Maths. He was an extremely good tutor and we would highly recommend him.
My daughter is finding Richard an inspiring English tutor. He is helping her to improve her essay writing technique and intends to cover all areas of her A Level syllabus this year. She likes being taught by Richard and so far I am very impressed with him.
Just updating my earlier feedback for Richard, who was an excellent tutor for our son coming into GCSEs. Just found out that he got straight As in English Lit and English Lang - something which would not have happened without Richard helping our son`s confidence and understanding of the subject. Would highly recommend.
Richard Graham was an excellent English Tutor for my son, coming into his English International GCSE. Covering both literature texts and core language skills and tips, Richard gave my son a real boost not only in his approach to the subject, but equally importantly, allowed him to approach the exams with confidence. Would highly recommend.
I feel much more confident about the standard of my work after being tutored by Richard. He is an excellent communicator and really goes that extra mile so that I understand his feedback and how to apply it. It also seems like he really cares about improving my grade. He has further helped me to overcome issues with shyness. His teaching is great value for money and I would definitely recommend him.
Richard very quickly developed a rapport with our 9 yr old son who actively looks forward to his next lesson. I would recommend Richard without hesitation.
My son is gaining a lot from his tutor sessions with Richard - he finds them very informative and thought provoking. He really enjoys the sessions, particularly the discussions. He would highly recommend Richard.
Lovely chap who my son thinks is the cleverest person he has ever met. He has brought the joy back into learning for my 18 year old who was beginning to stagnate. Thank you Richard.
