Information about Rachael
Hello,
I do not like to regurgitate the syllabus to my students or to talk at them, the key to any good tutor is the ability to communicate effectively. I realise that each student has different wants and needs and many understand the content but they wish to establish their own voice in their writing, so I debate with them about the characters within a novel to offer a different perspective. Many students want to understand their exam and I help them do that by identifying the key elements of their subject or module so that together we can anticipate what may or may not come up on the paper. Many students have no interest in the subject and merely wish to pass the exam and it is my job to identify how I can do that for them.
I am a very proactive tutor and so I will do work outside of the sessions, for example, I had a student studying business studies at degree level and he had a law module that he had no interest in and found difficult to understand. So, outside of the session, I drew up a fact sheet which broke everything down so that when it came to our session he had a basic knowledge and understanding of what we were talking about and referring to, this enabled the lessons to flow a lot easier because I not in fact teaching but just clarifying and refining the information which he already understood.
My approach to tutoring varies with each student that I have because I understand that everyone is different and that is what I love about tutoring.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have tutored over 10 students and raised all their grades substantially in GCSE English, Maths and A-level Law.
