Polly

I have been teaching since 2009. With kindness and constructive guidance I enable my students to blossom. I teach Cambridge University undergraduates and ICMP Masters Songwriting students, as well as adult independent learners, and my subjects are English literature and songwriting.

In 1997, I got a first in English from Cambridge. In 2016, I returned to study and was awarded a Distinction for my MA in Contemporary Literature, Theory and Culture at King`s College London (KCL), and finished my PhD in 2020 at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich under the supervision of Angela Carter expert Stephen Benson. My academic monograph `Angela Carter and Folk Song` was published by Bloomsbury in 2022.

I design and teach university courses on poetry and songwriting, and I help students prepare for assessments, providing them with essay-writing techniques and guidance on critical and reflective writing. I prepare students for university interview on request. I have now tutored hundreds of students.

I am a signed recording artist and published songwriter (polly). I have been releasing critically acclaimed albums with Bjork`s label One Little Independent (olirecords) since 2003.

I bring all this experience to my teaching with a practical love of my subject areas. I am a friendly mum with two children and lots of animals; I enjoy walking with my dog Charlie and drinking exotic teas! Whatever my students learn with me at my home will not just be to get them through their exams: they`ll gain a love of literature to last a lifetime.

I live in central Cambridge and I teach online and from my home.
