Information about Peter

Now that we are well into the second term of the school year, it is time to focus on getting fit for the race to exams in the Spring – to build up both your understanding of subjects that need attention and your exam techniques. Start early – less stress.

I am experienced at online tutoring, using whiteboard technology, and providing a summary of the lesson afterwards, and ensure that all online lessons are of great value.

Year 13 Maths will be, largely, more algebra, calculus and trigonometry, building on the foundations laid down in year 12. Being strong in these areas is essential for both progress, and success.

For Computer Science students, using a programming language and, importantly, understanding program design will be key to finishing your programming project to a high standard, and in good time. For students learning Python, Visual Basic or Visual C#, we can work on programming skills. Early progress on the project documentation helps greatly. It is important not to let your project go on for so long, that it crowds out other revision.

Good year 12 results matter - as the foundation for final A level results, and, through predicted grades, are important for your university course of choice, and job offers. Get the most out of year 13, and address any areas that need strengthening, early.

Your GCSE results will help to ensure that you can take the subjects of your choice for A-Level, and GCSE results may determine A Level college entry. Good Maths and Science GCSEs are considered valuable for university entrance, whatever subjects you choose for A-level.

I am an experienced Maths, Physics and CS tutor for A-Level, GCSE, IB, undergraduate studies, and, adults needing to take Maths or Physics for professional exams, such as QTS, AOSB, etc. I have a very good understanding of how students learn, and the importance of, both, confidence, and, a sense of purpose. Each student has particular issues and strengths, and I aim to create a personal plan for each. My objective is, for learning to be a pleasure, and to be interesting. I am patient, provide clear explanations with many examples, to ensure that teaching sessions are productive, and that students learn to think and work independently.

Maths
=====
In Maths, progress requires sound foundations. I aim to establish a solid Maths base with students, and to build their confidence and competence. This provides a framework for making strong progress, enjoying their Maths, developing independent learning, and growing the belief that they can succeed. I emphasise good Math technique and habits, so that marks are not lost through unnecessary errors. I enjoy tutoring most of the Further Maths modules, and stretching my students.

Physics
=======
A clear understanding of the principles of Physics, and, the ability to analyse problems using these principles, will assist in comprehending and enjoying the subject. I bring a lively purpose to learning Physics, and the pleasure that comes from understanding more of the workings of our world.

ICT and Computing
=================
From a working career in Engineering and IT, I have knowledge and experience of hardware, software and IT practices, to bridge the gap between theory and practice, in covering the syllabus. I have completed programming work with students in Python, Visual C#, C, R and FORTRAN. It is clear that good program design is as important, as, being good at the programming language. I bring a clarity to understanding good program design, which is rarely taught well.

In my engineering degree, I studied Maths for 3 years. Most of my postgraduate work involved computer models of biological systems. In my professional life, I have been involved in the analysis of marketing data, creating financial and business models, and using numbers daily.

I am patient, understand the learning process, and look to build on each student’s strengths to enable their fullest potential to be achieved.

Peter was an amazing tutor. Went above and beyond in preparations for lessons and the code he taught to me I have been able to apply else where in my degree! Outstanding degree level tutor for R coding. Can`t recommend highly enough. Peter is well worth his price point.
