I am a qualified teacher with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and native Spanish speaker with more than 10 years of teaching experience across all age ranges and levels of study.
I earned a BA (Hons) Fine Art from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the University of Oviedo.
My interest in other cultures and learning took me first to Liége (thank you Erasmus Grant!) where I lived, studied photography and practised my French for a year.
Similar reasons brought me to London, where I have been living and teaching Spanish for more than ten years, earning an MA (Distinction) in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.
I am quite passionate about the Spanish language. I take great pleasure in walking my students through the grammar and building vocabulary. I can certainly empathise with moments of doubt, as I have gone through similar (only from Spanish to English!).
My experience as an artist and musician, my love for humanities, culture and languages informs my lessons and hopefully makes them more enjoyable to others! I try to bring interesting / entertaining content to the lessons, using a number of resources (articles, excerpts from films, TV series, recorded dialogues, songs), tailored to the needs of the student.
"Lucía is a an excellent professional. She has a great didactic to teach Spanish, with a deep knowledge of the grammar, vast vocabulary and a very clear accent. Her tutoring style involves a good variety of lessons (grammar, conversation, videos, audio), making it easier to learn the language, through interesting and exciting sessions. I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn or increase their level of Spanish."; Vinicius B.
"Lucia is friendly, patient, and a very accommodating Spanish tutor. Before I began lessons with Lucia, I would describe my level as very basic, knowing only a few words and phrases in the language. With each lesson however, I feel that my vocabulary has expanded, and my confidence in speaking Spanish has grown. In each lesson, we usually begin with conversation, before moving onto grammar and writing exercises. We have also translated newspaper articles and popular Spanish songs together. She has been my Spanish tutor for over 18 months, and I intend to continue lessons with her for the foreseeable future. Lucia is fantastic and I feel I have made a lot of progress. "; Jenna C.
"I have been taking lessons with Lucía for over 6 months now and my Spanish has come on leaps and bounds. Lucía is a great teacher;; extremely patient, knowledgeable and very creative. The latter in particular I find is very important as we all know how boring learning tenses or grammar can be. Indeed, rather than make you learn by rote, Lucía engages you in role play and stories which not only makes it more interesting, but encourages you to think on your feet which is a crucial skill to develop for when youre using your Spanish in the real world. Its clear that Lucía has studied teaching and has a wealth of experience in the subject. Ive always felt shes had a plan for my Spanish development and thats been apparent in how weve progressed through the tenses and grammar as well as getting the right balance of reading and listening. I`ve had tutors in the past where its all been about working through a textbook and conducting the mind-numbing task of memorising vocabulary. Lucía`s classes are never like that; they`re fun and engaging and my Spanish has flourished as result. Highly recommended!"; David S.
Availability: Flexible schedule
Willing to travel: 50 miles
Experience: I have helped young students to prepare successfully for A Levels and GCSE exams, university students to improve their Spanish speaking skills for presentations (sometimes the day before!) along with helping with essays/dissertations. I also teach Spanish for business and travel, including intensive sessions, Spanish immersion, and refreshers.
I have great experience in adult teaching. My background as an artist and musician informs the selected content of my lessons and teaching style and I have had very positive feedback from adults enjoying this material. I can offer an insight not only into Spanish language, but culture which proved to be very beneficial for the lessons. I consider myself very fortunate with this job and enjoy the time spent with my students. They are all sorts, even ones that simply learn for pleasure!
