Information about Louise
Louise is an experienced tutor who is passionate about helping students fulfil their potential and get the most out of their studies.
Louise graduated from from Oxford University with a First Class degree in Modern History and French in 2009. After teaching English at Bordeaux University for a year, she returned to Oxford to complete her Masters degree in Modern European History. Louises dissertation was written on women in the French resistance during World War II and she is particularly interested in French history, but she has studied a wide variety of historical periods and can tutor any subjects on the Scottish or English school curriculum.
Louise offers tuition from primary up to degree level in History and English, as well as more general skills like essay writing, revision techniques and Oxbridge interview preparation. Having also worked in publishing and as a freelance Proofreader, Louise offers proofreading and copy editing on dissertations and theses - please get in contact with your specific request and to confirm availability and turnaround times.
Louises approach to tutoring is first and foremost to treat every tutee as an individual and to tailor her tutoring to their specific requirements. In the initial meeting with tutees she would discuss with them their reasons for wanting a personal tutor and the skills or competencies which they would like to develop. As confidence is generally the most important attribute for students to develop in their academic work, her tutoring is always geared towards enhancing students` confidence and making them aware of the many skills they already possess.
Louises lessons are always interactive and encourage student participation, so that they work together towards achieving both their goals for each session and longer term study goals. Louise has a highly flexible approach to tutoring, and students are encouraged to ask questions and to lead the direction of the session. She also focuses on study skills and "transferable skills" which students can apply to their other school work. She develops individual relationships with each tutee and designs a programme of study around this.
Availability: Louise offers tutoring Monday-Saturday between 9 a.m and 8 p.m.

In 2007-8 Louise worked as an English language assistant in a French high school. This involved working with students aged between 14 and 20. Louise led classes as well as working with students on a one-to-one basis, and was responsible for improving students` confidence and fluency when speaking English.
In 2009-10 Louise worked as a lectrice d`anglais in the University of Bordeaux. This involved working with university-aged students between first and final year who were studying English for their degree. As well as leading language classes, Louise marked students` work, gave feedback on progress and helped administer and mark examinations.
