Laura

My name is Laura and I am 43 years old. I am originally from Birmingham but now I live by the sea in Worthing. I am an intelligent, creative person. I have a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature from Oxford University and reading/writing continues to play a big role in my life.

Aside from writing, I love reading books, photography and watching films. I also like working with people, which is one of the (many) reasons why I enjoy tutoring.

I am friendly, patient and passionate about my subject. I listen to my tutees and strive to create sessions that are tailored to the needs of that particular individual. My approach to tutoring is relaxed and enthusiastic, but also thorough. I aim to build confidence as well as increase knowledge and understanding.

Availability: I am currently only available during the day, Monday to Friday. More tuition spaces should open up in early June, once some of my current students complete their exams.

Experience: I have been a private tutor for over 15 years now, helping students (ranging from Year 8 - university level) with all aspects of their English Literature and Language courses - including in-depth analysis of texts, improving coursework, exam preparation and revision skills. I have an up-to-date DBS check, and I`m more than happy to show you certification at our first meeting. I have also completed safeguarding training.


I have previous experience of working with students in a school setting. In 2024, I worked as a teaching assistant in a local school, supporting SEN students. I have also mentored Year 8 pupils, designed and delivered workshops to young people interested in applying to university and, as an academic coach in a comprehensive school, coached Year 10 and 11 pupils through their AQA English Language and Literature GCSE syllabus. I was also employed through the `Aim Higher` scheme to provide GCSE support for Y11 students at a local school. Lastly, I have also tutored in care homes helping students currently out of education.
