Information about Kevin
Chemistry tutoring experience:
I have been tutoring Chemistry to GCSE and A-Level students since 2005 covering AQA, Edexcel, OCR A and B plus iGCSE. I also tutored at University during my PhD for 3 years.
I ONLY tutor Chemistry, which means that I know the subject, the syllabuses and most importantly, the exams, all very well.
Study Skills:
In addition to this, I help students with their study skills and exam technique a lot. It is in area that is neglected in schools (almost non-existent) but every students needs help with this. It is usually the reason AS students struggle in year 12 after getting good GCSEs. The beauty is that these skills can be applied to any subject. It is possibly even more important than the subject material.
My Approach:
My approach is to be friendly and encouraging. I feel that it is important for the student to be comfortable with the tutor so that they can open up and ask questions that they might not do with a teacher in school.
I keep the tutoring as simple as possible as students often come for tutoring after being confused by teachers. I feel that it is important to work on the students mindset constantly as often students have lost confidence or do not believe in themselves enough.
I use study guides that are simple and colourful and easy to read, which can provide an alternative viewpoint to what is in the students course book. I have also written my own tutorials that again, I have tried to make as simple as possible. I also use my own experience more than anything else. I see the same chemistry and exam mistakes all the time.
Resources:
I have accumulated a lot of past papers, notes and questions that the students are welcome to take. I also have my own exam focussed revision notes and test yourself questions that again the students can have.

Kevin has helped to widen my understanding of any fundamental misconceptions I had with my A-level Chemistry. He helped with my exam technique by giving expert advice on how to approach questions and speed up doing them. The resources he provided were very useful and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
