I am an Imperial College maths graduate with over 25 years of teaching experience. Maths has always been my favourite subject, and I get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction from tutoring. I have tutored hundreds of children, both primary and secondary school students, at all levels up to and including A-level. I was previously a secondary school maths teacher at a mixed comprehensive school in North London for seven years, and I was also a GCSE and A-level examiner for two exam boards.

My teaching style:

Many children find maths as it is presented in school incredibly dull. (Just ask a few of them what they think about school maths.) So wherever possible, I like to use deep, open-ended, curriculum-relevant problems to get my students curious (see 2 examples below):

"You have 36 metres of fencing. What`s the biggest garden you can make if you are free to make it any shape you like?"

"If I tell you the sum and the difference of 2 numbers, how can you work out what the numbers are themselves?"

These sorts of problems give children the chance to explore, ask questions, make conjectures, test out their ideas, and come up with their own explanations. This is what makes maths engaging, and helps them become competent mathematicians.
