Information about John
I am fascinated by science, mathematics, language and philosophy, and I enjoy helping others to extend their knowledge and understanding. I recently completed a PhD in Linguistics, as well as a Teaching and Research Fellowship in Linguistics at Queen Mary University of London. My research looks at the relationship between epistemology and language.
I make extensive use of past exam questions because the best way to do well in exams is to practise doing exams! This also allows realistic monitoring of performance as tutoring continues. I normally email exam questions for students to attempt before the tutoring session. Students should also have time to explore their own interests in the subject by asking questions of their own. This is an important part of reflective learning and will help build and maintain enthusiasm.
Availability: Flexible, but better availability during office hours.
I am happy to teach up to 3 students in a single session. Multiple bookings have a reduced fee per student due to the moderate reduction in individual attention.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: Experience as a classroom teacher of Science to KS3/4 (age 11-16). Classroom Physics teacher to KS5 (age 17-18).
Teaching placements in London and Kent. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) achieved after successful induction period. Undergraduate lecturing and tutoring in Linguistics.
10 years` experience as a private tutor of science, maths, English, and social sciences for GCSE, AS/A2 level and undergraduate exams.

Very helpful, thank you
John tutored my son on Chemistry and Physics A-Level over the summer holidays. He found him very supportive and helpful with lots of good resources at his disposal and recommendations of where to look for further support, papers etc. I would definitely recommend him and we will be working with him over the final year.
John was extremely helpful and efficient. We would definitely recommend him to others and will use him again if my son needs more support in the next academic year.
