Mathematics Step Exam
A Level (Grade A) Mathematics and Further Mathematics
Information about John
I am 36 years old and have enjoyed tutoring Maths & Physics for several years since graduating with an Engineering Degree from Cambridge.
I`m neither a qualified teacher (but I am known to set homework) nor a maths boffin (but I am fluent in mathematics, and enjoy passing on my enthusiasm for the subject).
I prefer to visit students in their own home, and am happy to travel up to 20 minutes including Stroud, and villages in between.
Across the board the students I have tutored gained confidence and understanding as well achieving excellent results. Some good news from the December maths GCSE exam too with a student I tutored getting the A grade she was looking for.
Improving expected grades, moving up a set and other study aims take time to achieve and I find students respond best to a regular weekly session just as when learning a musical instrument for example. Often students looking for a tutor have some special circumstances moving schools, special learning needs, self teaching mature students, struggling with the subject and not getting the marks in mock exams they need for university. I`m experienced with successfully helping students in all of these situations.
I also help students with revision in the run up to exams and resits with organising a revision plan, setting and marking revision work and past papers, as well as teaching areas they have difficulty with and discussing good exam techniques.
Please get in touch to discuss your needs. We can exchange messages on the site initially, and if you are happy, the site requires you to purchase my contact details for providing the service. I am happy to deduct this fee from the cost of the first lesson if you book regular weekly tutoring.
Some recent comments:
"Hi John!, Got my Kings place confirmed, as I got 91% in Mechanics, 91% in Core 3, and 80% in Core 4. Very Pleased, as it meant technically an A overall! Thanks so much for your help, I could not have done it without you!"
"Hi John, just to let you know that * got an A in her GCSE maths, and were all really pleased. Thanks again for all your help"
"We would like to thank you so much for the confidence you have instilled in * , with every lesson she seemed happier to approach those sectors of maths that she had difficulty grasping"
To finish I`m not a web profile, I`m a real human being, so please get in touch so we can discuss how I can help. At our first meeting we can discuss fully the students situation and needs before a lesson begins so you can be sure you have picked the right tutor and so I can build a structured plan tailored to the needs of the student.

Feedback For John (3)
My daughter had been seeing John for just a few months for tutoring in GCSE Maths, but the sessions were unfortunately postponed due to C-19 - 3 months prior to her sitting the exam. However, even with the lack of tutoring for those missed months she had improved on her Grade and is now studying Psychology as one of her A Level subjects - which required a good pass mark at GCSE. The sessions were very thorough, John accurately assessed where my daughter was with her learning. He also provided homework which supported her school work. I would highly recommend John.
John, thanks for the excellent support to our Daughter prior to her maths GCSE. As you know she had started to struggle with some of the work but your help brought her back on track and and boosted her confidence and consequently she got an A. She is delighted and so are we. She was always at ease with you and if she didn`t understand something you found a different way to approach the question until she got it. Many thanks.
Thank you for supporting our son in his first year of a maths degree, you boosted his confidence and helped him organize his work which is having a lasting positive effect for him.
