As an honours graduate in Mathematics, I have been lucky enough to be able to apply my mathematical skills throughout my working career. As a result, I am ideally placed to provide tuition of mathematics in an interesting way that gives practical examples of how it is applied. My patience with people and passion for the subject has enabled over 200 students of GCSE and A-Level Mathematics to improve their attainment levels and enthusiasm for the subject in a relaxing and supportive teaching environment.

I have taught privately for the past twenty-five years, achieving good improvements in predicted grades across the board. I can provide tuition for A Level, GCSE Higher and Foundation Tier levels across all Examination Boards, with a very firm understanding of all the core topics. My working background enables me to give real examples of how these topics are used in practice. Mathematics is also one of my hobbies!

My approach to teaching the subject of Mathematics is informal but ensuring that the pupils feel able to ask any question of clarification during the lesson. It is important that the pupil understands why they should learn a particular aspect of the subject as well as the how. My strongest skill is being able to promote enthusiasm and a liking for the subject, which reaps huge benefits, both in our lessons and in the lessons at school or college. I also focus on examination technique, giving special attention to helping the student maximise the marks that can be achieved on a question.

I provide face-to-face and online tuition so can provide a service to pupils all over the country. Support outside the formal lessons is provided using WhatsApp free of charge, which allows the student to progress without having to wait for their next lesson.

I am very keen that my lessons should be seen as enjoyable, so will always look to develop a good working relationship with the pupil, so that they feel at ease with me and so are relaxed about asking any question they want, no matter how trivial it might seem. I also ask to undertake routine reviews with parents or guardians to monitor progress.

Availability: Any time on a weekday and some weekends. I also provide online tuition over and above the formal one-to-one sessions, using Zoom and / or WhatsApp. This is usually free of charge, depending on demand from the pupil and allows them to progress without waiting for the next formal lesson.

Experience: I can provide tuition for Foundation and Higher Tier GCSE using the new 9 to 1 syllabus. The subjects I can teach at A level include Core Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics. I have experience of teaching material applicable to all the major Examining Boards. I am also equipped to coach for the STEP One and STEP Two examinations set by the Admissions Testing Service.
