Information about Julia
Qualified Primary Teacher with a great deal of recent 1:1 experience aiding pupils to gain confidence and skills in maths and literacy.
Tutees include pupils with Special Needs.
I also help children who are proposing to take the selection tests for grammar schools. Based on experience, I recommend a 75-90 minute slot but this is dependent on what is suitable for your child.
Gifted and Talented? There is often not enough time at school to extend pupils with exceptional skills. I can offer extension in maths.
Keen on languages? I also teach Spanish up to GCSE
One whole hour for your young child too long? I agree! I will accommodate 45 minute and even 30 minute slots for your child if it is more beneficial and provided you live near to me! Fee calculated pro rata.
MY PHILOSOPHY: I believe that it is paramount to foster a tutee`s self confidence. Learning should be engaging and fun, relevant and achievable.
Availability: Weekdays: mornings, early afternoon, after-school and evenings. Saturday mornings, half-term breaks and school holidays.
Since the pandemic lockdown, I have been teaching online. Not all my pre-pandemic tutees have availed themselves of this facility, therefore I have spare capacity at the moment.
I am some slots available during the day and on Saturday morning.
Post-lockdown, I shall be hosting all new tutees at my home in Sidcup. I live near the station. I might make exceptions for people depending on location and time.
I have some daytime availability if your child is home-schooled or if you are an adult looking for some Spanish lessons. I could teach you and a group of friends, this would reduce the cost per person and be more fun and arguably more beneficial to your learning.
Willing to travel: 1 miles
Experience: 20 years in education including as a learning support assistant in secondary education, for special needs. I then trained as a primary teacher, therefore I have experience as a class teacher in KS2. I worked with the original Making Good Progress initiative which was later replaced by the current Pupil Premium 1:1 learning support in schools. I am now offering 1:1 tutoring.
From approximately 2010 to 2018, I was working in a local primary school, helping children from year 4 to year 6 to achieve their learning targets in English and Maths. At the same time, I was teaching private tutees in the evenings and at weekends. Since 2018, I have exclusively taught private tutees in their homes. Therefore, I have approximately 10 years experience as a private tutor, teaching children of all abilities.
I teach Spanish to groups of 15-20 children in an afterschool club setting - i.e. fun and educational.
Prior to my career in education, I worked in commerce including banking and architecture. I worked for a Spanish bank where I wrote correspondence in Spanish and spoke in Spanish on a daily basis. I also have formal qualifications in the Spanish language and have lived in Spain.
