Jennifer

I am a qualified primary school teacher and Modern Foreign Languages graduate from the University of Edinburgh, with experience teaching both in the UK and abroad. I have taught primary subjects in schools and as a private tutor, as well as English as a Foreign Language in France and Spain.

I offer personalised tuition for primary-aged children in maths, English and Spanish, as well as preparation for 11+ entrance exams. I also provide EFL tuition for children and adults.

My aim is to make lessons engaging, supportive and tailored to each learner’s individual needs. Whether your child needs help building confidence, consolidating their learning, preparing for an entrance exam or extending their skills, I provide structured lessons designed to help them make progress.

I am available to tutor in person across the York area and online anywhere.

Availability: Weekdays and weekends.

Experience: I have over 12 years of teaching experience as a classroom teacher in the UK, in nursery and primary schools in France and Spain, and as a private tutor both in the UK and abroad. I have also worked as an English as a Foreign Language (EFL) tutor in a language college. I hold a PGCE in Primary Education with QTS and a CELTA qualification, and I now work exclusively as a private tutor in York, offering maths, English and Spanish tuition to both schooled and home-educated pupils. I also tutor for 11+ entrance examinations and prepare pupils for the KS2 SATs.

I have experience teaching all age groups, from early primary through to adults, as well as planning lessons and carrying out assessments. I aim to encourage every pupil to achieve their full potential, and I believe that an appropriate level of challenge, combined with an enjoyment of learning, is key to success. During the first session, I discuss the pupil`s needs and goals and develop a tailored programme of lessons. I can also provide homework between sessions, which I mark and provide feedback on.

I have a positive and encouraging approach and aim to develop a strong rapport with every pupil, creating a calm and cooperative learning environment. I deliver engaging lessons using real-life experiences, games and carefully tailored resources, adapting my teaching methods to suit each child`s individual needs and learning style. I am patient, flexible and committed to persevering with each pupil so that they can build confidence, enjoy their learning and make genuine progress towards their goals.
