Information about Ian
I am a graduate in Mathematical Economics from the University of Birmingham. My original career was as a Chartered Management Accountant but I always had the ambition to move into teaching. I have been tutoring children one-to-one since 2012. I also run a maths and English training centre for 3 to 14 year olds. I was a governor in a primary and then a grammar school for many years before entering the teaching profession. I was on the GTP training course for Secondary Mathematics at London South Bank University before deciding to go down the tutoring route.
My aim is to help children become independent, confident learners who are not afraid of numbers. Everyone can do maths!
I teach maths at the following levels:
GCSE
A Level
International Baccalaureate.
I have now built up a lot of experience helping students prepare GCSE`s and A Levels.
Many pupils find maths at secondary schooling academically challenging. I can explain the underlying mathematical concepts and show them how to approach questions so that they can get into the maths set they deserve. For older pupils I will build their confidence by presenting topics in a variety of ways to find one that makes sense to them. I will help the students improve their exam techniques. I can provide tuition for all levels up to Further Maths at A level, including Mechanics and Statistics.
I will travel to your home within 5 miles of Cambridge.
Availability: I am now offering both face to face and online lessons.
I am free during school hours and most evenings.

My son really likes Ian. He says he teaches him in a way he is able to understand, which was very important. His confidence plummeted from a previous tutor, so it was a relief for my son and I to have someone who is able to support and guide him in a positive and encouraging way. We will continue with Ian.

Ian has been tutoring my son for A Level for a couple of months. Ian is punctual, organised and prepared. My son is a lot more confident and engaged in maths thanks to Ian’s tutoring and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
