Information about Helen

I am a lifelong learner myself and taking OU History modules, learning to swim, and trying to improve my French,or get to grips with Physics iGCSE all help me stay in touch with the pressures and rewards of studying, meeting targets and taking tests.

As a tutor I spend a lot of time listening carefully to what you, as a tutee, have to say. I try to respond to your ideas thoughtfully and constructively to help you build on the skills and knowledge you already have - whatever level you are starting from. Whilst being able to support you with the fundamentals of topics, I believe an exploratory and active approach with equal participation from both of us will help you to have confidence in your knowledge, and faith in your own opinions and interpretations.

I believe collaborative learning, partnered with a good focus on study techniques and strategies, is the key to you developing your individual potential - whether that is to improve your written or spoken expression, pass a GCSE or Entry Level Qualification, or to reach for the grade you aspire to at A Level.

Availability: Week days: daytime and evening (excluding Weds evenings)

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: My PGCE was focused on Further Education and post-16 learning styles and, in addition to my work with teenagers, I really value my role as an English and Study Skills Access tutor for adult students returning to education. This often involves confidence building with literacy and focuses a lot on individual approaches from people who may have been out of the education system for a while.
