Information about Gareth
I am currently a chemistry teacher at Ruthin School, North Wales and have been for the last three years. This is an extremely successful school that is ranked 7th in the UK for A-Level results. GCSE results are also very good. 1-to-1 tutorials are a feature of the learning of the school and hence I am very experienced at helping students overcome their individual struggles, whether that be making the leap from A to A* or those hoping to secure a C grade (or numerical equivalents at GCSE).
I teach all the A-Level topics (organic, inorganic and physical) following the AQA Chemistry specification. Being a selective school most of our students will achieve between A* and B at both AS and A Level, but we still have students that struggle with the subject.
I teach all abilities at GCSE, following the AQA Chemistry specification with students taking the separate science chemistry route. At my previous school I taught students that followed both the separate science chemistry and combined science (trilogy) routes.
I am currently a GCSE chemistry examiner for all of the main UK exam boards (we are not allowed to disclose which), an A-Level chemistry examiner and an examiner for Singapore chemistry exams.
I teach chemistry at Key Stage 3 to students of all abilities.
Previously I was Head of Chemistry at Tarporley High School in Cheshire for 6 years and Deputy Head of Science for two years. During this time I had many responsibilities including the tracking of student performance and developing intervention plans for students.
I was also a Specialist Leader in Education (SLE) for two years. The nature of this role was to provide support to other schools that were in need of it.
Following my graduation from the University of Durham I worked at the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Aldermaston as a Radionuclides Scientist. This role involved physics and chemistry and I undertook a variety of roles advising different government agencies.
Availability: During term time I am free some evenings.
During half-term or other holidays, personal commitments depending, I can be slightly more flexible with my availability.
