Information about Fra
Having been a tutor since 2002, a qualified teacher since 2007 and an examiner since 2011, I have a depth of knowledge in Physics, Science and Mathematics. My passion for physics led me to undertake an undergraduate degree in the subject, in which I achieved a First Class (Hons.) in 2000. I then enrolled on a Ph.D. in Particle Physics at The University of Manchester, which I completed in 2004. While carrying out my Ph.D., I worked part-time as an academic tutor for the undergraduate Physics modules at The University of Manchester for a year in 2002, which prompted me to embark on a teaching career. The idea of being able to foster a love of science, physics in particular and making a difference in the lives of pupils by enabling them to reach their full potential really captivated my interest. I thus embarked on a PGCE course in Physics at Kings College London in 2006 and qualified as a teacher in 2007.
I bring fourteen years experience of teaching Physics up to A-level and Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics up to GCSE level in a UK secondary school which follows the British curriculum. Being the Head of Physics at a high-achieving secondary school and having been a Key Stage 5 Manager in Science in the past has meant developing innovative schemes of learning across for Physics all key stages, leading their review and evaluation. I manage other Science teachers and have been training Newly Qualified Science teachers (guiding them through their induction year) since 2014.
Teaching various A-level Physics specifications such as Pearson Edexcel, OCR A and OCR B has enabled me to prepare students for different examinations and allowed me to be more familiar with the demand of different exam papers. I have dedicated eighteen years preparing pupils for GCSE, iGCSE and A-level through my role as a teacher and as a self-employed private tutor.
With 9 years` experience, I am also an examiner for the A-level Physics, International A-level Physics, GCSE/iGCSE Physics and GCSE/iGCSE Science for four different UK exam boards. This role involves marking exam scri pts and writing reports for various exam series by assisting the Principal examiner. It has allowed me to better understand the common pitfalls of many students and remove such misconceptions within the learning.
Throughout the last eighteen years, I have tutored pupils for different exam boards such as AQA, OCR and Pearson Edexcel in A-level, GCSE and iGCSE in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics through a one-to-one or group basis. With a proven track record of helping students from grammar, independent school and comprehensive schools and university undergraduates achieve their full potential, I work closely with students to ensure that each session is tailored to their needs. These sessions are usually in the form of explanation of content, independent work from the student by solving questions including past papers, detailed feedback on these and guidance on any problem area for the student. Examples of past student success include studying Physics at Cambridge University and Engineering at University College London.
In addition to face to face tutoring, I have ten years experience of tutoring online via Skype and more recently using Zoom. Since March 2020, I have been teaching live lessons on a weekly basis using Microsoft Teams. I have also been an online Physics tutor for two different tutoring agencies, which involved providing tuition, marking students assignments and giving them detailed feedback on their work.
