Information about Esmee

I have 15 years teaching experience and currently teach at UAL CSM Central St. Martins

I am Graduate of Central St. Martins BA Fashion Design

I teach all aspects of Fashion Design and Textile Design, Portfolio Preparation Art Foundation, as well as French for Fashion and Italian for Fashion.


I offer portfolio preparation for any UAL or RCA courses.


I also offer training to those wishing to become designers.

Introduction to Fashion

Part 1: Creating Your Concept & Trend Ideas

Module 1. Start Your Design Journey 3 hours
You don`t have to be a great dress maker to be a fantastic designer. But its recommended to learn the basics of knitting, sewing, or pattern making help you find and express your creative voice and share your vision. Learn about the range of skills required to become a designer.

Module 2. Finding Your Inspiration 3 hours
Music, architecture, travel, street fashion, instagram, snapchat—how to use them to inspire your work. Learn about the importance of keeping your eyes and mind open to inspiration and record what you love in a sketchbook.

Module 3. Sketching Your Ideas 3 hours
How to start your sketching process, illustration or technical sketching? Learn what kind of drawing to use when and what you can accomplish in a sketch that is ready to hand over to a couture atelier, a prêt a porter manufacturer or na off shore manufacturer.

Module 4. Creating Your Own Trends and Mood boards 3 hours
Every designer approaches the creative process differently. Analyse how your creative process starts and start using mood boards, collected swatches to create your own trends.

Module 5. Choosing Fabrics - Know Your Mohair from your Merino!
Fabric is the key to a great design. Learn how to choose fabrics for your designs and the pros and cons of working with different natural fibres: cotton, linen. silk, wool. Discover the fabrics of the professionals.


Part 2 : Creating Your Collection


Module 1. Creating Shapes and Silhouettes on a Mannequin 3 hours
The silhouette and cut of your garment is one of the most important parts of communicating the look you want in your collection for catwalk or in store selling. Learn how to use experimental methods to create silhouettes on a mannequin and how to then translate them into your illustrated designs.

Module 2. Patterns and Toiles 3 hours
Discover the process of going from sketch to paper pattern and what you learn by making initial 3-D prototypes of your garments. You can start studying simple patterns starting with a simple basic dress block.

Module 3. Haute Couture or Prêt a Porter? 3 hours
Learn the differences between Haute Couture and Prêt a Porter construction techniques and how you can decide the techniques for each of your designs.

Module 4. Examining Production Techniques 3 hours
The key to a great design is in the details and finishing. We analyse details in three garments of your choice, demonstrating what each technique achieves for each design.

Module 5. Developing a Collection 3 hours
A collection is more than just a series of garments. Create your own design philosophy and vision and develop your Creative Director skills.

Module 6. From Inspiration to Catwalk: 3 hours
We break down the entire process for creating a full collection, from inspiration to catwalk with a time line plan.














Part 3: Building Your Fashion Company

Module 1. Working With a Team - How to source the best team. 3 hours
Learn how to select the best team to make a successful collection and all the different roles that make a fantastic design team.

Module 2. Working in Collaboration -How to find creative partners 3 hours
Learn how to embed collaboration into your design process and what to look for in collaborators and how to work with artists artisans to create unique designs.

Module 3. Fashion Exhibitions and Catwalk Shows 3 hours
The ultimate for any designer is the catwalk show. Learn how to create an exciting show, including what to look for in models.

Module 4. Fashion Survival 3 hour
The fashion industry can be challenging , even for the best of designers. In this module learn how you can survive and thrive.

Module 5. How to set your own Fashion Business in The UK. 3 hours
From setting up your limited company, creating a business plan to registering brand names and protecting your designs, everything you need to know to set up from a legal perspective.

Module 6. Business Practices and Fashion Etiquette 3 hours
Methods of dealing with suppliers and contractors vary from country to country, culture to culture. Learn how to create long standing business alliances in The UK. and abroad.

Module 7. Feedback Session, ask the questions to help you start building your brand. 3 hours
This session focuses on setting targets for your brand and business working towards the launch of your first collection.

Experience: I am a Fashion and Textile Designer. I graduated from Central St. Martins. I have 15 years teaching experience in class, one to one and online.

My first industry job was in Kenzo in Paris where I worked as an assistant designer. I was then head hunted by Moschino in Milan. I enjoyed living in both cities and in these jobs I learnt how to work as part of team and learning about the `business` of fashion.

I also offer a one to one mentoring programme to help students enter the fashion or design industry or prepare their portfolios for entrance interviews for BA and MA courses.
