Information about Deborah
I love helping other people to understand and enjoy maths, and I know that the classroom is not always the best place to do this â many people need the individual attention that one to one or small group tutoring gives in order to bring up their basic skills, learn to build on them and so gain confidence and enjoyment. Maths is too often the subject that people learn to hate and fear â a little one to one help can turn all that around. I aim to give my students a good understanding of the subject rather than learning one-off tricks and rules.
I have a PGCE in teaching maths in the post compulsory education sector, and in school teaching, so can offer tution to children and adults.
Availability: I have some availability week days and weekends, daytime and evening. We can arrange a time to suit you. I can offer weekly or monthly tuition - as much or as little as you need.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I have been tutoring maths for the last five years, and have been working as an adult tutor in ICT and Maths for Learn Devon for four years. Prior to re-training in maths teaching I was a computer programmer/analyst for some 20 years. I have worked successfully with students of all levels, including those with dyslexia or other difficulties in maths.
The following is an unsolicited testimonial from one of my tutee`s parents:
"Deborah is a very professional tutor and always tries to make our sonâs weekly maths tutorial as beneficial, creative and enjoyable as possible. She is very dedicated and prepared to listen and help and follows up her tutorials with useful homework for our son to work on during the week. You can see how much personal satisfaction she gets from helping our son, which is great.
I would not hesitate to fully recommend Deborah and her approach to tutoring maths. She clearly cares about her work and helping children to get to grips with maths."

Great. Debbie helped me pass my Functional skills Level 2 Maths and now is helping me with my GCSE Foundation Maths. As a mature student, returning to studying is a challenge so finding the right tutor is so important. Debbie is able to explain topics in a way which enables you to understand them by working through examples and questions enabling you to gain confidence to take away with you. Flexible with regards to sessions, a great tutor .
