Information about David
I am a University of Oxford Graduate Scholar and published expert in Learning and Teaching working in an independent school in Maidenhead. Winner of the Oxford Education Society Award for Learning and Teaching. I have taught in both state and independent sectors with great success in the highest achieving schools in the country as well as working with students with complex trauma and SEND. This term I will have space for a just a few tutees in or around the areas between Camberley, Surrey and Maidenhead for families who would like some help improving their grades in GCSE and A level Sciences.
I have a warm, friendly and engaging style with experience of delivering a full complement of A* grades (or Lv.9 at GCSE level) for my clients across the Sciences. Most of my A level students go on to study at Oxford, Cambridge and IV League universities and a variety of other excellent red-brick universities. Some students also enjoy fulfilling their potential in other vocational settings as well. Your first lesson with me is free, where we discuss your individual needs, go through notes, papers and reports and it is a good chance to get to know one another.
As an experienced teacher in all areas of science education and research, working in the most academically high achieving schools in the country, I have been the teaching school sciences at the top independent and state secondary schools in the country for over 18 years. I have an exceptional academic career record in all areas. My qualifications and experience are in teaching KS3, GCSE (and now IGCSE), International Baccalaureate, BTEC and AS/A-level Sciences (11-18 years) at both state and independent secondary schools since 2007/8 and tutoring since 2004.
As an experienced tutor visiting students for 1-to-1 lessons in the comfort of their own homes or online, you are always most welcome to have your parents or carer observe and participate in sessions and I insist that children under the age of 18 have a responsible adult in the house at all times as part of good teaching professional practice.
You may also have your own group lessons for revision classes if you have the need with groups of your friends and peers where group discounts or longer sessions can be arranged. These have been very successful in the past. Maximum group sizes I can arrange are up to 22 and as few as 3, though weekend workshops and lectures can be larger.
Rated twice by OFSTED as outstanding (2009 / 2012) and awarded the Oxford University Education Society Award for my contribution to Learning and Teaching in education (2014) you are in the safest hands to get the results that you need for ongoing academic success.
Availability: I will have spaces every weekday from 5pm onwards (my school day finishes at 4pm) on Mondays and Tuesdays.
You are always warmly invited to enquire and we can discuss a mutually convenient time and day.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: 21 years - Celebrating my 22nd year as a private tutor and teacher! Some of my first students are now having careers and families of their own with my first students now turning 30!
I have taught in both the state and independent sectors, including comprehensive, grammar and boarding schools. I work with students with high aspirations and I am qualified and experienced working with students with SEND and complex trauma.
