Information about James
Very experienced tutor of Government/Politics and History. Currently completing PhD at University of Sussex. I have lectured at Kings College London and the University of Warwick, and also taught A-Level Politics at five colleges of further education.
Most of my recent tutees achieved either A or A-star grades. One student achieved an A in History and went to Bristol University, another achieved A in second year Politics (and an A in her first year re-takes) and went to Nottingham, while another achieved A-star in History and went to SOAS. Another student improved his grade from a U to a B between September 2012 and January 2013.
I undertake tutorials at my flat in central Birmingham, but I am happy to visit students` homes if within a reasonable distance.
Availability: Very flexible and willing to travel. Always very available at the start of the academic year, so that is the best time to get started.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have taught A-Level British Politics, US Politics, International Relations and Political Theory. I also lectured in European Studies and 20th Century History/International Relations at Kings College London for three years. At Arcadia University, I placed and supervised American intern students in work placements with Members of Parliament, and also taught two courses as part of the full internship programme. My study skills presentation duties involve working with students between the ages of 11 and 18. Last year, I lectured a second-year undergraduate History course at Warwick University called `The Politics of Protest`, and also supervised two Politics of the USA seminar groups. I also run an interdisciplinary research group called Race in the Americas (RITA).
