Information about Brian
My full time occupation is spent as an Engineering Consultant within a large Communications company. I am 50 years of age and live in Aylesbury, Bucks with my wife. I can offer tutoring at the students home or at a predefined venue particularly if more than student attends.
I value an approach where i form a learning contract with the student. The objectives of this are to have a well defined plan of what we are going to achieve and to set commitments on both sides. I do this by setting up a clear experience in the students mind of what it will be like to achieve their learning goals and using that as a motivator for real progress. In my experience motivation is one of the greatest keys to achieving.
I also like to use analogies and the occasional use of metaphors as aid for understanding and retention. I have had great success with this approach.
Availability: Weekday evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 15 miles
Experience: I have 2 years of tutoring experience across the ages 11-18 covering Mathematics, Physics, Electronics and Psychology. I also run courses in Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) where the emphasis is on developing skills to optimise the learning experience (eg short and long term memory retention techniques). I have been running these course for around 5 years now.
