Dr is a fully qualified teacher with QTS and clear CRB. I came originally from Yorkshire and I am a graduate of Bangor University. I settled in Wales and married a local girl. I have over fifteen years combined teaching experience in a breadth of subjects including Electronics, Physics, Chemistry and I.T. I presently work in distance learning but has also worked in independent schools, colleges of technology, and ran his own private tuition business. Nine years post-doctoral experience in interdisciplinary Science and Electronics has also been gained and he spent a consecutive ten years running a Scientific Inventions and Consultancy business. I am a diverse lateral thinker, holding several Science and Engineering patents. I am also a Chartered Examiner, holding examining and moderator appointments at AQA and previous appointments at WJEC and City and Guilds of London Institute. I am also an invited referee to several major scientific journals and grant awarding bodies as well as being an occasional PhD examiner to the University of Lancaster. My hobbies are Ham Radio, DIY,Gardening, Hill walking, Writing Poetry, Internet Self Publishing, Frontier Science, Atmospheric Science and Unexplained Phenomena.I began teaching an adult night school class whilst still a student and was head hunted by the vice principal of a large college to do day teaching as well. After working for a few years as a University Post Doc and running my own inventions and consultancy business I went back into teaching. I worked at Hillgrove school for several years being the principal teacher in Chemistry and IT. More latterly I have taught Physics and Electronics for a well known distance learning company. I now work for a famous online school.

Experience: I first began private tutoring when a Bangor University student.
I knew the family of the then Careers Officer who sadly passed away and his wife asked me to tutor her daughters in a variety of school subjects which was very succesful. By word of mouth I soon found my self home tutoring the children of several other well known Bangor families. More latterly I often have advertised my services in local newspapers but the opportunity presented in this website seems too good to be missed. My tutees have ranged in age from primary to adult but I get most success with KS3 through to A -Level. I am equally at home tutoring Science, Maths, IT or even KS3 English as described. Unusal for someone with Science and Engineering Degrees I also love writing poetry and creative essays!

Every student is different and the beauty of private tutoring is that the one to one scenario gives the only true manifestation of `personalised learning` which has been the buzz phrase of so many new schools and academies recently. I have a natural empathy with young people and my approach is often friendly and relaxed. This is essential if tutees are to gain confidence in themselves and their abilities. I relish the challenge of engagement with all kinds of individuals and have had success with all kinds of learners from academic through to kinesthetic and those who would be adjudged in school to have slight learning difficulties. I had great success recently with a student diagnosed with Asperger`s syndrome, for example. Once confidence is established my approach can become more formal but definately not dictatorial! I like the student to attempt the work and then I can offer constructive support. In some subjects I work extensively with practice exam papers.
