Information about Amy

As a highly successful accompanist and concert pianist, it is my passion to pass on my love for the piano to other musicians. My experience began with starting the piano and violin at a very young age and consequently winning prizes in competitions across the North West. I was accepted at Chetham`s School of music and studied the piano with Susan Bettaney and completed my Grade 8 piano and violin with distinction in both. I went onto gaining a scholarship at Birmingham Conservatoire where I studied for my Bmus(Hons). At the Conservatoire I studied with Malcolm Wilson (Head of Piano) and Victor Sangiorgio. I had the opportunity to play in master classes and concerts with prestigious musicians such as Murray Mclaughlan, Bernard Roberts, Peter Donohoe, Margaret Fingerhut, and Charles Camilleri.

After studying the piano I also went onto gaining my Secondary Music PGCE (Instrumental Route) at Birmingham City University. I enjoyed this thoroughly and taught up to GCSE level at a range of schools in Birmingham and in Cheshire. As my PGCE included specialist training in instrumental teaching which I found very enjoyable, I begun to develop my expertise in this area of teaching. I now work for Music For Life in eight different schools in the Cheshire area with ages ranging from six-eighteen years old. I have taught children from beginner level up to post grade 8 and have been recently helping a violin student with his music college auditions. With Music For Life, I teach piano, keyboard, violin and singing but also assist with whole class violin teaching. I have had superb feedback from parents and have helped pupils achieve distinction in their ABRSM exams on piano and violin.

I have worked with young people in accompanying dance classes for the RAD which I particularly enjoyed when being sent to the Isle of Mann to play in classes for the Nutcracker Ballet. I have also accompanied grades 4,5 and 8 in RAD exams which I thoroughly enjoyed. I also accompanied classes prior to this for rehearsals before the exams. Part of my weekly work includes being an accompanist for choirs in the area for example, The Lydian Singers of Knutsford. I often play organ parts, harpsichord and orchestral reductions in rehearsals and concerts. We recently performed at St Cross Knutsford, High Leigh, Whitegate and in Latchford. I thoroughly enjoy accompanying for Musical Theatre and recently performed in a production of `Oliver` at the Grange Theatre in Hartford with Knutsford Musical Theatre.

Availability: I am currently available to take more pupils on and am very flexible. Available weekdays, evenings and weekends.

I am willing to travel short distances however I charge an extra fee for travel costs.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: My most recent experience includes work as a Guest Entertainer for P&O cruises and Fred Olsen in which I performed exciting and engaging repertoire with Sarah Douglas (my duo partner on Clarinet) and as a solo pianist. We received excellent feedback as performers. Recent concerts include, Buxton Opera House, Bury Parish Church and The Old Chapels in Somerset where we performed works such as Ginastera, Mozart, Liszt, Chopin and Gershwin`s Rhapsody in Blue. I also enjoy playing in string ensembles and orchestras in the area and have recently performed in Purcell`s `Dido and Aeneas` with Nantwich Singers` Orchestra. I am part of an acoustic duo of guitar and violin and we are regular guest performers in local venues, we were also recently in the newspaper as part of the Congleton Unplugged Festival.

I teach privately at my home in Congleton where my pupils learn piano and violin to a very high level from ages four up to adult learners. My pupils have excellent technique which is something I expect from my pupils from a very young age. They learn all round music skills through a variety of games and activities which make each aspect of learning fast pace and fun whilst gaining each of the fundamental skills needed for playing the piano and violin. I have developed a style of teaching which can be adapted to the learner but I have extremely high expectations and encourage pupils to practice regularly and to achieve their full potential. My two most recent examination candidates both achieved distinctions through ABRSM, one of them gaining an excellent 136.
