*** I know all the GCSE exam boards, including the iGCSE boards (Oxford AQA, Edexcel) and most of the Literature texts - if I don`t know one, I`m happy to read, research, plan and prepare for it! ***
I usually get back to students within the hour, ignore the "10 hours" stated in my profile.
In addition, I only tutor online - so there are no clashes with other work commitments.
Outstanding Teacher, Subject Leader and Examiner in English Language, English Literature, Media Studies, Literacy and English as a Second Language! I know all the exam boards pretty well and I can also offer support and training to teachers and student teachers.
I have been tutoring students of all ages since 2000, when I took on a mature A Level student to help her with her essay writing skills whilst I was still at university. I started teaching in 2002 and taught in a range of Secondary schools, after-school clubs, evening schools, weekend and holiday revision and also in a Primary school provision at the weekends. My calm and patient manner will put you at ease and my engaging and well-planned lessons, with a key focus on instant feedback, will help you make that outstanding progress you are after. I tailor my lessons to you, focusing around your needs and interests, in order to make the process of online tuition a pleasant and rewarding learning experience.
Availability: Note, I do not work Fridays or Sundays. I only teach online, not face-to-face.

My son recently started to have online tutoring with Alan for creative writing and comprehension. He has enjoyed the lessons so far and says he finds it easier to remember what he has learnt, as Alan is very good at explaining things. The lessons are well structured and tailored to my son’s needs. He finds Alan very approachable, and they interact well during the sessions. He gives lots of encouragement, and I am starting to notice some improvements. I would highly recommend Alan.

Alan has been tutoring me for over a month now. Alan is very enthusiastic and full of energy. From his lessons it is clear that he has a lot of experience teaching. He always comes prepared for the lesson and he is happy to accommodate for individual needs or specific requests, for example he helped to review and proof read some of my personal work. Alan has a great sense of humour and he is a joy to work with. Alan is highly recommended as an excellent tutor.
