I’m an experienced professional tutor specialising in English, History and Philosophy at GCSE and A Level, as well as academic writing, essay skills and study support.

My approach is calm, friendly and highly personalised. I have particular experience supporting neurodivergent students, including those with ADHD and autism, as well as Oxbridge candidates and highly able students who may need greater challenge or a more individual approach.

I’m very happy to adapt the pace, structure and style of lessons to suit the student, whether that means breaking difficult tasks into manageable steps, explaining ideas in a different way, or stretching them beyond the standard curriculum.

I work particularly well with students who need help building confidence, organising their ideas, improving essay technique or simply making a subject feel more manageable. Every student learns differently, so lessons are shaped around the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all programme.

Alongside subject knowledge, I place a strong emphasis on the skills that make a real difference across a student’s education: clear thinking, effective revision, confident writing, exam technique and independent study. My aim is not simply to help students complete the work in front of them, but to give them strategies they can use throughout their academic careers and beyond.

What do I teach?

English Language and Literature
GCSE and A Level support covering literary analysis, creative and persuasive writing, unseen texts, essay structure, terminology, exam technique and revision.

History
GCSE and A Level tuition, with particular emphasis on understanding difficult content, constructing strong arguments, using evidence effectively and writing high-level analytical essays.

Philosophy
A Level support with complex concepts, argument, evaluation and essay writing.

Academic writing and study skills
I can help students plan and improve essays, dissertations and personal statements, as well as develop academic writing, referencing, revision and study techniques. I am also happy to proofread and provide detailed feedback, although the ideas and content must always remain the student’s own work.

About me

I have an MPhil in Modern History from the University of Bristol and a First-Class MA from the University of St Andrews, where I studied History, Philosophy and Art History. I was awarded academic medals in all four years of my degree and achieved the highest grade in both my History and Philosophy courses.

Before becoming a tutor, I worked professionally in publishing and communications for organisations including Oxford University Press and the Society of Antiquaries of London. This experience has given me a particularly strong background in writing, editing, communication and explaining complex ideas clearly.

What are lessons like?

I want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and saying when they don’t understand something. Lessons are supportive but purposeful, with clear explanations, practical strategies and honest feedback.

For neurodivergent learners, I often adapt lessons through clear structure, shorter tasks, flexible pacing, repetition where useful and different ways of explaining the same idea. I focus on reducing overwhelm and building confidence while still maintaining high expectations.

Support also doesn’t end when the lesson finishes. Students and parents are welcome to contact me during the week with questions about homework, revision or essays, so they never have to feel stuck between sessions.

I teach online, working with students across the UK and internationally.
