Information about Amelia

I am an experienced professional tutor, having enjoyed a career in communications and publishing for prestigious organisations such as Oxford University Press and the Society of Antiquaries of London.

I am available for online tutoring in humanities subjects such as English, History and Philosophy, as well as help with editing personal statements and academic essays.

I`m a friendly, calm and kind teacher who will personalise lessons to meet your individual requirements - believing that every single learner is different. I pride myself on offering honest, supportive feedback and recommending additional educational resources/approaches should I feel they be necessary.

What do I teach?

Academic Writing: I`m happy to proofread dissertations/essays and am able to guide students through the complexities of academic writing and referencing. I must stress that the content of essays must be the students own.

Humanities Subjects: English Language and Literature (including English as a Foreign Language), History and Philosophy. Taught at GCSE and A Level.

Alongside my professional experience, I have an M.Phil in Modern History from Bristol University, as well as a First Class MA from St Andrews University, studying Art History, History, and Philosophy. I was awarded medals in all four years of study, as well as achieving the top grade in both my History and Philosophy courses. I feel creativity combined with a logical approach to learning is extremely important whatever the subject, and I help students not only with content - but also their approach to study.

Where do I teach?

I teach online via Zoom - and consequently offer lessons to students all over the UK (and further afield).

What do I charge?

I charge £40 per hour - payable via the Tutor Hunt website.

The support does not end with our face-to-face lessons! I provide all students/parents with my personal contact details for any questions, resources, proofreading… etc.etc., and am here to help with just about anything learning-related throughout the week.

I`m always open to new challenges, so please do get in touch. I will look forward to meeting you.

Amelia has the rare combination of being very competent and having a great capacity for empathy / finding the right level to reach a particular student. When my daughter started having lessons with Amelia in February this year she was really unmotivated and convinced that she could not do anything right in English. And I was quite concerned that she would fail her English GCSE exams (just 4 months away). She is now convinced that she is going to get a 6 or a 7 in English Language / English Literature in her GCSEs exams (which have just finished last week). I can not tell you how much an improvement this is in just 4 months. After watching Amelia first lesson I knew it was going to work out well but I am delighted how well it did work out! So in summary I think that any student will be in extremely good hands (and I have not mentioned her punctuality, preparation and unfailing good spirits!)

Amelia is a good tutor. I neede someone for one-off lesson for my daughter, and although she was busy, she found the time. I really appreciated the gesture.

Amelia was a fantastic tutor for my daughter who helped her achieve a 7 & 8 at GCSE in both Literature & Language. She established a rapport quickly & is very knowledgeable
