Information about Amelia
I am an experienced professional tutor, having enjoyed a career in communications and publishing for prestigious organisations such as Oxford University Press and the Society of Antiquaries of London.
I am available for online tutoring in humanities subjects such as English, History and Philosophy, as well as help with editing personal statements and academic essays.
I`m a friendly, calm and kind teacher who will personalise lessons to meet your individual requirements - believing that every single learner is different. I pride myself on offering honest, supportive feedback and recommending additional educational resources/approaches should I feel they be necessary.
What do I teach?
Academic Writing: I`m happy to proofread dissertations/essays and am able to guide students through the complexities of academic writing and referencing. I must stress that the content of essays must be the students own.
Humanities Subjects: English Language and Literature (including English as a Foreign Language), History and Philosophy. Taught at GCSE and A Level.
Alongside my professional experience, I have an M.Phil in Modern History from Bristol University, as well as a First Class MA from St Andrews University, studying Art History, History, and Philosophy. I was awarded medals in all four years of study, as well as achieving the top grade in both my History and Philosophy courses. I feel creativity combined with a logical approach to learning is extremely important whatever the subject, and I help students not only with content - but also their approach to study.
Where do I teach?
I teach online via Zoom - and consequently offer lessons to students all over the UK (and further afield).
What do I charge?
I charge £40 per hour - payable via the Tutor Hunt website.
The support does not end with our face-to-face lessons! I provide all students/parents with my personal contact details for any questions, resources, proofreading
etc.etc., and am here to help with just about anything learning-related throughout the week.
I`m always open to new challenges, so please do get in touch. I will look forward to meeting you.

Amelia has the rare combination of being very competent and having a great capacity for empathy / finding the right level to reach a particular student. When my daughter started having lessons with Amelia in February this year she was really unmotivated and convinced that she could not do anything right in English. And I was quite concerned that she would fail her English GCSE exams (just 4 months away). She is now convinced that she is going to get a 6 or a 7 in English Language / English Literature in her GCSEs exams (which have just finished last week). I can not tell you how much an improvement this is in just 4 months. After watching Amelia first lesson I knew it was going to work out well but I am delighted how well it did work out! So in summary I think that any student will be in extremely good hands (and I have not mentioned her punctuality, preparation and unfailing good spirits!)

Amelia is a good tutor. I neede someone for one-off lesson for my daughter, and although she was busy, she found the time. I really appreciated the gesture.

Amelia is a great tutor and prepares her lessons really well. My daughter (in year 11) loves the lessons with Amelia and gets more confidence in Shakespeare, creative writing etc. Her lessons are diverse, motivating and never boring. I could write much more about Amelia, but I guess the best proof we are very happy with her is that we just asked her to start tutoring our youngest daughter as well.

I had a rough start with history (namely my previous tutor) and asked Amelia to step in and do my whole course again with me... in less than a year. She was amazing! Amelia pushed me when I needed to be pushed, and left me to my own studies when she knew I could plan it myself. Shes been one of my favourite tutors: shes friendly, patient, enthusiastic and Ive loved every second of my lessons with her.

Firstly, I can`t recommend Amelia highly enough. She has been tutoring my Year 10 daughter (Lucy) in English for the last couple of months - initially face-to-face, and more recently on a `virtual` basis. Amelia has a really easy and natural disposition and has built a brilliant rapport with Lucy - as well as being professional and communicative in keeping me updated on Lucy`s progress and what they are working on. In the current climate, I have felt much better in the knowledge that Lucy has this additional support and help from Amelia. To reiterate my first comment, I would fully recommend Amelia.

Miss Amelia is tutoring my daughter through A level modern history and English language and literature. We have tried several tutors before only to be disappointed in the lacklustre demeanor by both those who are subsidising through uni or otherwise. Amelia`s approach to sessions are always well prepared, professional, attentive and genuine. There is a dedicated level of detail towards the needs of the pupil that goes beyond the call of duty. This was clear from the first engagement where Amelia researched into detail of the syllabus and exam board`s to be tutored . We feel very fortunate to have chanced on Amelia and thereby warrants the highest endorsement.

Amelia really helped my daughter with her History A level. Amelia often prepared material outside of the tutoring sessions. I would highly recommend.

Amelia is a wonderful tutor. She is really enthusiastic about her subjects and makes lessons really fun. She also comes really well prepared with original ideas to bring the subjects to life. Our daughter also adores her company.

Amelia is lovely - very bright and capable, but really puts our daughter at ease. She has immediately grasped where to focus for maximum gain and is already building our daughter`s confidence and enjoyment in the subject.
