I am a Head of English in an excellent school in Birmingham with 14 years of teaching experience for students aged 11-18.

I have a proven record of success and a real passion for the subject. I have worked with pupils of all abilities at KS3 and KS4. By catering for students` individual needs, I ensure that all pupils are able to meet and at times surpass their target level or grades. In addition to my teaching role, I have worked for two leading exam boards. Being an examiner has given me insights into how pupils can achieve top marks. As a result, the pupils I teach make good or outstanding progress, with many surpassing their target grades.

Teaching and learning is not just about passing tests, however! I teach the importance of language in an ever changing world, and the rich rewards literature has to offer. I am keen for pupils to simply enjoy the subject, and so I have set up and run writing clubs, entered pupils for poetry competitions so that pupils can see their work in print, and over the past several years I have been working with the BBC as part of their Young Reporters project.

I provide tuition that caters to a wide range of needs, including: help with classwork and homework, literacy support, exam revision, and help with writing CVs and college applications. My private tuition is tailored to suit you and your child`s needs, so please ask if there is anything specific you would like me to cover.

I decided to become a teacher for two reasons: my love of literature and language, and secondly, a desire to do a job that makes a difference to people. Every day I get to see pupils achieve. The best reward in teaching is seeing pupils reach their potential.
