Information about Helen
I am a mother to two young adults, one at university studying history, the other in her final year of school studying costume design and making. On leaving university I did a variety of jobs finally settling on Shiatsu. That changed when I had my children and I became a teacher.
Children and young people who need extra one to one tuition often have diagnosed or mild undiagnosed SEND. One way or another the classroom environment is not allowing them to fulfil their potential in certain subjects. These young people are almost always hugely talented. Young people learn best through enthusiasm. I love to engage with them, draw out and appreciate their talents and interests and use this knowledge as a way to enthuse their academic work. I find it extremely rewarding to watch them grow into the world, with all its necessary structures, believing in themselves, confident and enabled.
Availability: I am currently available online, to mentor and support young people with school work while the schools are closed, Many young people, particularly those in Key stage 4, need help organising themselves in this situation and benefit from a listening ear other than their parents. I am able to support in all GCSE subjects. Please contact me for an initial phone call and a free first online lesson.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: I have a biology degree from The University of Warwick and twelve years classroom teaching experience in all core curriculum subjects from ages 6 to 14. I have tutored a number of SEND children of all ages. I have tutored science and maths to GCSE including SEND students. I am a trained Steiner teacher and movement teacher.
