Information about Laura
I am a medical doctor and experienced teacher, spanning from KS3 to A levels/IB. I provide personalised tutoring tailored to your needs, including support with material covered in school, admissions testing, and getting ahead on the curriculum. I utilise a combination of teaching techniques based on what suits you best. I include practice questions to stimulate recall, as well as diagrams/flowcharts to encourage understanding, rather than just memorisation, of complex concepts in Biology and Chemistry.
A little bit about me: I hold a dual degree in Medicine and Bioengineering from Imperial College London, where I graduated in the top decile of my class. Prior to that, I scored 43/45 in the International Baccalaureate (A-level equivalent) at Wellington College.
I have over 500 hours of professional tutoring experience. I have also supported students with their personal statements and admission interviews. These students have gone on to secure seats at some of the top schools in the country, as well as their medical schools of choice. I also give lectures and tutorials to Imperial College medical students.
I am a curious and dedicated individual, always looking to expand my knowledge. I have worked in cancer research in the United States before and contributed to medical literature. I currently work in hospital psychiatry in west London. In my spare time, I enjoy running, swimming and reading fiction. I conduct charity work for a Search and Rescue organisation in Central America and have organised numerous medical educational conferences.
Feel free to get in touch for any further information.
Availability: I am flexible. I usually tutor on evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: I have over 500 hours of individual tutoring experience with A level, IB, GCSE, and KS3 courses.
I am experienced with children, having worked as a doctor in Paediatrics and as a summer school counsellor when I was younger. I am confident breaking down complex concepts into digestible ideas and tailor the learning experience for the person I`m working with. I believe that learning should always be interesting, and I apply this principle to all of my tutoring.
My students make rapid progress, improving not only in their test results but also in their confidence and passion for learning.
