Information about Katharine

I am a second year medical student who has always loved to learn and teach. I offer tutoring to all ages and abilities of people. I have tutored 2 students in mathematics for a year, at GCSE, and at primary school level. I am experienced communicating with a range of people and will personalise my teaching plans and style so that students can understand and engage whatever their ability.

The subjects I am offering to A-level students are chemistry and biology, I gained an A* and an A respectively in these subjects at A-level. As a medical student I am continually expanding my knowledge of these subjects and I would hope to inspire my tutees to be as passionate about them as I am. I am always keen to share my experience of medical school and answer any questions my students may have.

If you require teaching in other subjects up to GCSE I would love to help. I achieved A* in Maths, English Literature, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Spanish, Art and short course Religious Education. I also gained an A in English literature and the top grade in my Additional maths FSMQ. Alongside the biology and chemistry A-levels, I also obtained a B in maths ( a high A at AS level) and a C in Spanish A-levels. Let me know what kind of level you are working at and aiming for and I will let you know if I am the right person to help.

How I Tutor:

Lessons will be held around the Birmingham University Campus. I like to start from first principles when tackling areas that students find more challenging in order to develop a deeper level of understanding. I will initially assess the student’s level and make a plan from there to optimise progress. I would appreciate students letting me know if there are particular topics they would like to cover in advance of each lesson so that I can prepare resources to bring with me. I will vary my lessons based on how the student learns best, this also helps to keep them interesting. There will often be a small amount of teaching from me, and a lot of interaction, working on cases or practice questions. I will encourage a small amount of prep from the student between sessions, but this will always be optional so as not to cause unnecessary stress. If I am tutoring the student in a particular subject they should still feel free to bring (or email me in advance) of any material from other subjects that they are stuck on and I will have a go at helping out
