Information about Katie
I have a strong academic background including a first class Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Leicester, where I graduated top of my year. I also have a Master of Research degree from the University of Birmingham, where I am studying for my PhD. I have also previously worked as a teacher.
I have a professional yet friendly approach. Particularly in the case of physics, it is so important for students to feel able to ask questions or to tell me that they do not understand - as I tell my students, the only silly question is the one that isn`t asked! I therefore strive to put my students at ease such that they are able to ask questions, foster their understanding of physics and thus perform academically at a higher level.
Availability: Anytime, with the exception of some weekend mornings - please contact me and we can arrange a time that`s convenient for you.
I teach from my home at a rate of £20 per hour. I am also happy to travel to students` homes within a 12 mile radius, which will incur a travel fee of 60p/mile, return. Please let me know which you would prefer.
To ensure that you get the most out of our lessons, I would be grateful if you could allow at least 48 hours notice between your enquiry and requested lesson time: this way, I can make sure I have prepared tailored and appropriate materials for you, such as past exam papers. Likewise, do let me know which exam board (e.g. AQA/Edexcel/OCR) you are with and if there are specific topics you would like us to cover.
Willing to travel: 12 miles
Experience: For three years I worked as Teaching Associate in the University of Birmingham`s Department of Physics and Astronomy, which involved teaching and supervising first and second year undergraduates as well as foundation year students. During this time I also gave lectures and lead seminars.
I have worked as a teacher at a high performing, independent girls` school, where I taught physics (up to A Level) as well as KS3 biology and chemistry. I helped to run the school`s science help club, where students were able to come to seek one to one help with their homework or exam prep/revision.
My experience of working with students at different stages and of different levels of attainment has enabled me to ensure that my teaching style and approach are tailored to the individual`s strengths and preferred method of learning. I am therefore able to help my students achieve their true potential.
