Information about Min

I am an enthusiastic, academic Chinese language teacher (Mandarin and Cantonese) with excellent up-to-date teaching methods and experience in all aspects of Chinese language teaching. I have a good understanding of the problems which students face and am committed in helping them to achieve their aims. I have taught students of different backgrounds, ages and ability.

My sessions include one to one tuitions, small group and classroom of 20 students. During this period, I have accumulated many experiences in this field. For example, it gives me an insight into the setbacks and disadvantages of learning Chinese language outside a country where it is spoken and how Chinese language teachers can minimize these difficulties. This is something that I bear in mind every time I plan a lesson. I follow one or two straightforward objectives for one lesson and kept my materials as simple as possible. I try to use contrasting pictures and colour word cards in order to balance the “simple” and “accurate” when I present a new grammar. Instead follow the text book page by page, I create many PPTs to present the lessons. I also use a lot of self- made flashcards to present vocabulary and for classroom activities. In the lessons, I use self-made puzzles including strokes, components and radicals and guided the learners to using logic, intuition and elimination to make up a character after they have gained some Chinese character knowledge. In addition, I use a lot of DVD, CD, up to date learning resource in internet and set up my own Power Points. I use humour and try to keep my students smiling. All these made the lessons interesting, enjoyable and memorable. Students obtained the knowledge of the Chinese language through entertaining and the subconscious way.

At present, I am working as a Chinese teacher in Hammersmith & Fulham Adult Learning & Skills Service where I have responsibility in a full teacher role. I set up, update and monitor the Schemes of work plan and present the lessons in the evening class Motivate students to continue to study and lead them to reach their gaol. Furthermore, I identified students’ strengths and weaknesses and adapted teaching methods as appropriate and strategies for differentiation and equal opportunities.

I am also working in Ealing Chinese School as a part time teacher every Saturday, where I am teaching children Chinese in all areas under the school’s syllabus. In June this year my class won the first prize of Mandarin reading competition in London area.

I finished the CLTA (Certificate in Language Teaching to Adults) course in 2007 this took place in Goldsmiths College, University of London. I am delighted to have achieved an “A” grade in my Chinese teaching practice assessment. In 2008, I had successfully gained an award of Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector which provides me with a qualification to enter the professional field in adult education. Recently, I am taking a degree distance learning course of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, which hold by a university in China.
