I am a Cambridge Mathematics graduate and experienced Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics tutor with ten years of private tutoring and teaching experience. I work with students from 11+ and school entrance level through GCSE, A-level, IB, competitive university admissions and selected undergraduate material.

My academic background spans Mathematics, Physics and energy policy. I studied Mathematics at the University of Cambridge and completed an MSc in High-Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. I am now completing a UCL PhD in energy policy and am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), recognising my university teaching practice. I am also a published academic.

I achieved five A*s at A-level in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, including full marks across my Mathematics and Further Mathematics modules.

Although I teach students across a broad range of ages and abilities, I particularly enjoy A-level and IB Mathematics, Further Mathematics and advanced problem-solving. I also have extensive experience with Physics and entrance examinations including STEP, MAT, Digital SAT Mathematics, AP examinations, 11+ and selective-school admissions.

Students I have supported have gone on to study at universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, King`s College London, Durham, Princeton, Harvard and MIT. I have also helped students prepare successfully for MAT and STEP before progressing to Mathematics at Oxford and Cambridge.

My teaching experience extends well beyond private tutoring. I have taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics in school from Years 10–13, worked with high-school and sixth-form students, contributed to entrance-examination and summer-school design, and taught at university level, including at New York University Abu Dhabi. I have also tutored extensively in the UK and internationally, including students following IB, European and US curricula.

My approach begins with diagnosis. I establish where a student stands against their syllabus, identify the specific strengths and weaknesses limiting their progress, and then devise a longer-term plan combining current course requirements with the foundational material or examination skills that need attention.

I place particular emphasis on understanding and independent problem-solving. Students should understand why a method works, when it applies and how it connects to other mathematical ideas. During lessons, I use questioning, staged prompts and progressively harder problems so that the student performs as much of the reasoning as possible themselves.

I have repeatedly supported students in improving by two or more grades. Previous examples include students moving from U to B, D to A and C to A*. For high-attaining students and admissions candidates, I focus on unfamiliar problems, sustained mathematical reasoning and learning how to recover when an initial approach does not work.

I am calm and encouraging, but also highly organised and results-focused. One of the things I value most about tutoring is seeing a student move from uncertainty or frustration to genuine confidence and independence in the subject.

I have worked with students across the ability range, from pupils rebuilding basic confidence to exceptionally strong students preparing for competitive university admissions. I have also helped students prepare successfully for MAT and STEP before going on to read Mathematics at Oxford and Cambridge. More broadly, students I have supported have subsequently secured places at Cambridge, Oxford, Imperial, UCL, King`s College London, Durham, Princeton, Harvard and MIT.

Alongside private tutoring, I have taught Mathematics and Further Mathematics in a high-school and sixth-form setting from Years 10–13. My responsibilities included working with the Head of Mathematics to structure the A-level curriculum, adapting teaching for students who were either falling behind or progressing beyond the expected level, and working across different examination boards and assessment requirements.

I also have extensive university teaching experience and have taught at New York University Abu Dhabi as well as UCL. I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).

My international tutoring experience includes working extensively with students in Berlin and Barcelona, which gave me considerable experience adapting between British, IB, European and international curricula.

At university level, I have taught or supported material including calculus, differential methods, mechanics, dynamics and relativity, vectors and matrices, vector calculus, complex methods, variational principles, quantum mechanics, classical dynamics, cosmology, statistical physics and general relativity.

My tutoring is highly structured. With a new student, I first establish where they stand relative to their specification or admissions requirements. I identify conceptual gaps, recurring errors and areas of strength, and use these to develop a longer-term plan.

My aim is not simply to help a student complete the question in front of them. I want them to understand why their approach works, recognise when a method is appropriate, identify their own mistakes and eventually require less intervention from me.

For examination students, I combine this with detailed work on timing, question interpretation, method selection, clear written solutions and checking. For advanced students, I deliberately introduce unfamiliar problems so that they learn to recognise mathematical structure rather than relying on memorised templates.

I am comfortable working with students over several academic years as well as providing intensive preparation for examinations, interviews and university admissions.
