Information about Richard
I`ve had 20 years experience teaching piano in Taiwan to both expats and Taiwanese, both children (from the age of 6) and adults, and relocated back to the UK in summer 2018. I accept beginners to advanced students, and I`m experienced in taking students through ABRSM piano exams (the prep test and grades 1 - 8, and the dreaded theory grade 5).
I take a relaxed, friendly approach to teaching, with the aim of instilling an interest in music and an ability to be an expressive player, rather than merely a technically proficient one, although naturally I do pay close attention to technical development. For young learners I often use popular/jazzy piano (Martha Mier/ Christopher Norton et al) to keep young learners engaged and hopefully practicing!
For more advanced students, I have a particular interest in late Romantic and early twentieth century music.
I teach in students` homes if a reasonable distance from me (I live in north Swindon, Redhouse village), or students are welcome to come to me. Although I presently have only a digital piano.
Availability: Monday to Friday evenings
Willing to travel: 4 miles
Experience: I`ve taught piano and theory to students of all ages (from 6 years old to nearly 70!) for the past twenty years.
