Ian (Tutor in Penistone)
A-levels (including maths and further maths)
Information about Ian
I am a former primary teacher and deputy head, currently looking to grow my tutoring business. I specialise in maths, and have found my work to be particularly useful for those students who struggle with the subject, or who have lost their confidence with it. Many of my current and previous students needed someone to help them with this aspect of their maths, and I have a high success rate in converting to required grades. I tutor from primary age up to GCSE, accepting students of all abilities. I offer a tailored approach for all students, using my background in curriculum design to aid this. My style is warm and encouraging, but firm when it needs to be. I am a believer that everyone has the ability to succeed at maths, if only they have the right teacher, and I enjoy putting that philosophy into practice. My own education in maths goes as far as A-level further maths, and I get a good deal of pleasure from the subject as a leisure pursuit.
NOTE: Ability to travel is limited to during the day.
Availability: I currently have slots available:
Most days during the day
Tuesday later evening
Willing to travel: 10 miles
Experience: Several students over about 10 years, almost all of whom achieved at least what they were hoping for in maths, with several exceeding expectations. Many of the students I have tutored began with limited confidence, but all had improved this by the time we had finished working together, with most enjoying the subject once again.
Up until a few years ago, I was a primary school teacher, specialising in maths. I have served as deputy head and have been involved in maths curriculum design.
