Information about Jack
I graduated with a First Class MMath masters degree in Mathematics from the University of Reading in 2012 and I am now studying for a PhD at the University of Warwick. As I am still studying, and since mathematics has been my primary focus for many years now, I feel that the material I need to cover is still very fresh in my mind. I am a calm and laid back person and I will always look to help students at a pace that they feel comfortable with. I was tutored during my A-levels so I know what its like to experience both sides of the tutor-tutee dynamic.
I like to start any tutoring programme by establishing an honest and realistic goal with the tutee. Once the tutee is happy with what we`re looking to achieve, I go through all the relevant material making sure that I concentrate particularly on areas that are causing the most problems. With mathematics, I believe the best way to improve is to practice as much as possible so most of my tutoring involves working through textbook exercises and past exam paper questions and addressing any areas of confusion along the way.
Availability: Weekday evenings and weekends.
Willing to travel: 2 miles
Experience: From October 2012 to September 2013 I worked as a Mathematics tutor in London. I tutored a year 13 student aiming for an A in A-level Mathematics and a year 10 student aiming for a C in Foundation Tier Mathematics GCSE. Since moving to Exeter I have tutored 2 students, both of which required A-level Mathematics tuition.
I also worked as a tutorial leader for my final year as an undergraduate which involved helping first year undergraduates through their weekly problem sheets. Additionally, I worked as a classroom assistant in the maths department of a secondary school for three weeks in the summer of 2010 where a lot of my time was spent giving pupils one-to-one help with their work.
